The Stoning of Soraya M. | dir. by Cyrus Nowrasteh
Screened this tonight. It was compelling and powerful. Hard to watch at times. If you are a crier and you go see this, bring Kleenex. It is based on a book and true story about a woman who was stoned to death in rural Iran. The Q&A after the screening involved a lot of different opinions and view points, etc. I am curious to see a broader reception from people, including Iranians, Iranian-Americans, Muslims, woman, and even people who are divorced from it all. In some ways, the film is less about a specific incident or culture, and could be used as a commentary in a larger scope.
If you’ve seen it or go see it (opens next week in a few cities, and wider July 10), drop me a line or leave a comment, I’m curious to discuss the film.
