Q:What are your top 5 movies/tv shows based on use of music in the tv show/film itself?
Top 5 all time films and TV show based on music is too hard… So I limited my answer to fairly recent television only. In no particular order:
- Chuck often has great source music choices, thanks mainly to seasons 1 and 2 music supervisor Alex Patsavas (who has also done work on Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, Mad Men, and others).
- LOST’s iconic score from Michael Giacchino is often noted as a character on the show — the character with the most screen time, at that.
- Late Night with Jimmy Fallon has the fortune of ?uestlove as its musical director. He picks great walk-on tunes to play with The Roots, who also collaborate with musical guests on occasion.
- Six Feet Under had both wonderful score from Richard Marvin as well as some great source music selections thanks to music supervisors Gary Calamar and Thomas Golubic.
- The West Wing composer W.G. Snuffy Walden may have a funny name, but he’s been a prolific TV composer for over 20 years. His work on West Wing was, well, presidential.
As Sawyer was trying to get his candy out of the vending machine, Juliet told him about a “trick” she knew, saying, “You have to unplug it and plug it back in.” That’s actually a really common fix to many of life’s problems, namely, my internet router. But also, it applies to the heart of the Island.

Read the whole article. It pretty much perfectly sums up what I interpreted from last night.
About to watch the series finale of LOST, live in HD at USC w/ 360 other Losties!
There is an endless array of questions that follows every question on the show….and, honestly, they follow us in life, too. I mean, I wish I had a guide book and all the rules for my life in the same way that people want a guide book and all the rules for LOST. And that just isn’t real; it isn’t they way we lead our lives. Any attempt to do that for the show would be incredibly didactic.
A comment about tonight’s LOST:
I’ve seen a lot of negative/meh/yawn/whatever/I don’t care comments & I think you all are wrong and greedy and impatient and unappreciative! (AKA MiB-like!)
To Damon & Carlton & all the writers: I am on board & have faith in what you’re doing! (AKA Jacob-like!)
This was even worse on my lowly 4:3 standard definition TV. A few other key visuals were little more than a fucking red V.

Fanmade “Party In the U.S.A.” video starring LOST’s Hurley. There is joy, my friends. There is joy.
