A wonderful moment of support for Brian Stow from Dodger fans.
In case you missed the news last week, after the Dodgers beat the Giants 2-1 on Opening Day last Thursday, two Dodger fans severely beat Giants season ticket holder Bryan Stow leaving the Santa Cruz paramedic with brain damage. He remains in critical condition here in Los Angeles.
The Giants have made an initial $10,000 contribution to The Bryan Stow Fund. Volunteers from Stow’s employer, American Medical Response, will be taking collections at AT&T Park and the Giants Community Fund is holding an auction of memorabilia and tickets to benefit Stow’s medical costs and his family.
Meanwhile, as seen above, Dodger fans here in Los Angeles have taken a public stand against the senseless violence that can - all too often - accompany sporting events.
Well before last week, as a Giants fan living in Los Angeles, I have never once worn Giants clothing at Dodger Stadium nor have I noticeably cheered for them out of caution. While I know and am friends with plenty of good, honest, kind Dodger fans, I hold a view of the random Dodger fan as a rude, scary, violent asshole to be avoided.
I am passionate about my teams, whether it’s the Giants, the Trojans, or Arsenal, but never have I ever even thought about physically assaulting a Dodger fan, a Bruin fan, or a Tottenham fan. Last year when Laker fans rioted in downtown LA like European soccer hooligans after beating the Celtics for the championship… I shuddered to think what it must have been like when the Raiders played in LA.
It’s just not that important - it’s just sports - it’s just a game.

It’s opening day, folks. The World Champion San Francisco Giants are back. Beat LA!
Brian Wilson (Not the Beach Boy) tells the ESPN bros why they should “Fear The Beard.”
The Sharpie® moment at the end is perfect.
The Phillies may have Lee again…
…but the Giants still have Lincecum, Cain, Wilson, Bumgardner, and Sanchez.
Oh, and the 2010 World Series Title by way of beating both the Phillies, and Lee (twice!).

I have officially signed on to root for the Phillies in the World Series (not that I’ll likely actually watch much or any of it) in part because of my hatred for whichever team they’ll face but also because I’m all for rooting along side Frank, Mac, Charlie, Dennis, and Dee.
